Reading Tutoring
The Learning Spectrum is proud to offer private reading tutoring using the Orton-Gillingham (OG) method. TLS’ own Reading Intervention Specialist Christina Boesch has received 60 hours of certification in Comprehensive OG and Intermediate Level OG training. The OG method is a multi sensory approach to reading that makes all students better readers. For early learners, the primary focus is on phonological awareness, phonics, encoding/decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension using the OG philosophy of multi-sensory, sequential, direct instruction.
For intermediate students, this means using Orton-Gillingham methodology specifically designed for upper elementary or older students who require foundational reading skills and continue to struggle in literacy development. Participants will learn advanced spelling rules, encoding/decoding with seven syllable types, morphology, and vocabulary. This also includes more of an in-depth study in orthography (advanced spelling rules) and morphology (affixes, Greek/Latin bases) for struggling students. Christina is an Intervention Specialist with a Master’s Degree in Special Education and over 10 years of experience working in schools and providing private tutoring services.
