The Learning Spectrum is proud to offer behavioral and social services based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Clients benefit from intake assessments, individualized 1:1 programming based on their strengths and barriers, as well as ongoing supervision by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). Evidenced-based treatments are implemented as a means to supplement classroom services or as your primary instruction. TLS can provide 1:1 ABA to children beginning at age 2 based on their needs. For ABA Registration, you will need to upload the Autism Diagnosis from your provider – code (F.84.0)

Speech Therapy

Speech-Language Therapy focuses on the treatment of communication delays and disorders. Communication is a combination of speech, receptive language (understanding), expressive language (what you say), cognitive communication (what you think), executive function, fluency (stuttering), voice, and pragmatic communication (social skills). Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work with students to become confident communicators.

Our Speech-Language Pathologists are highly trained professionals who work with children who have difficulties in the following areas: speech sound production (articulation, phonology, apraxia), receptive and or expressive language delays, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) interventions, pragmatic skills, fluency/stuttering concerns, and executive functioning.

Enrollment in our program includes a formal evaluation in which our speech therapists conduct a series of assessments and observations using standardized testing to determine your child’s current functional level and areas of need. Following the evaluation if therapy is recommended your child will be recommended for 1:1 therapy based on the results of the evaluation.

The Learning Spectrum focuses on using naturalistic learning and is client-centered. Our therapists focus on play-based learning.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on the therapeutic use of movement and play to enhance one’s development to promote improved sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, and overall self-care. Our occupational therapists help to develop those necessary skills to lead more independent and fulfilling lives through enhancing the skills required for academic and daily living success.

Our occupational therapists and certified occupational therapy assistants (COTAs) are highly trained professionals who address the following areas: motor skills, cognitive processing, sensory processing difficulties, visual processing difficulties, sensory seeking or defensive tendencies, challenges with play and social interaction, difficulting taking care of oneself or competing daily living tasks, difficulty with shoe tying, getting dressed, brushing teeth etc., handwriting letter and number formations.

Enrollment in our program includes a formal evaluation where the occupational therapist will conduct a series of assessment and observations using a standardized assessment to determine your child’s functional level and area of need. Following the evaluation if therapy is recommended your child will be recommended for 1:1 therapy based on the results of the evaluation.

Treatment consists of working in a 1:1 setting in both the OT gym as well as in an office setting.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is the use of music experiences as interventions to accomplish non-musical goals in therapy.  Music Therapists are credentialed professionals who have completed a 4-year degree, a 6-month internship, and carry a board certification.  Music can be prescribed to address many different areas such as:

  • Behavior
  • Social Skills
  • Communication
  • Gross and Fine Motor
  • Sensory Integration
  • Cognitive Skills
  • Psychological Goals

Because music therapy is a non-threatening medium and can be viewed as “another way in”, unique outcomes are possible.  Music therapy is researched based and found to effect change in several populations of people with special needs.

A client of music therapy can expect to be involved in actively making music on a variety of instruments, dancing, singing, and occasionally listening to music.  Any of the above music experiences is tailored to the individual’s needs to elicit positive change.

Mental Health Counseling

Mental Health Counseling seeks to improve emotional and cognitive well-being. By working with our Masters level, licensed Social Workers, TLS aims to develop coping skills for those individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar, grief and loss, trauma, bullying, self-harm behaviors, and deficits in their social skills. Our coping skills are personalized and customized to maximize the personal strengths of each individual while minimizing associated distress.

By talking with our mental health professionals, you can learn more about our scope of practice and funding options. Our intake process will encourage parent collaboration and treatment planning to best explore the areas of concern.
