The Learning Spectrum has added a new member to our team! Sondra Williams will be TLS’s School/Home/Community Liaison.
In her new role, Sondra will develop the curriculum for TLS camps and transition programs, and provide professional development sessions for TLS staff. As a liaison between support groups, students and families, she will establish ongoing working relationships and help to resolve any issues. Sondra will also develop and distribute program material and literature to inform parents and the community about the services at TLS.
Sondra is an adult living with autism. She raised four children with autism, and has a grandchild with autism as well.
She is a national speaker for autism, disability and trauma. She founded and developed the S.P.E.A.K.S. art program, and met President Obama in 2010. In 2013, she received the Courage Award from Governor Kasich for her outstanding work mentoring teens and adults with autism, and overcoming her own adversities. In 2016, she received the Impact Award for her work in trauma and disabilities.
Sondra hopes to create and develop new programs for the students at TLS, and help teachers and staff develop new ways of teaching and interacting with the students they serve. She also hopes to increase the funding sources.
Because of her vast experience working in the autism field – as a parent, a mentor and a board member on local, state and national levels – Sondra understands those with autism on a personal and professional basis. She is able to identify and decode behaviors rapidly in children, and feels blessed to have worked with so many kids and families.
We welcome Sondra to The Learning Spectrum!
