On November 28, The Learning Spectrum will be offering a one-day professional development training on LAMP, Language Acquisition through Motor Planning.
LAMP is an augmentative alternative communication (AAC) approach designed to give students an independent and spontaneous method of expression through a speech-generating device. The training will be provided by The Center for AAC & Autism, a resource for clinicians, therapists and parents who are working to improve the language and communication skills of kids with autism.
All four of the TLS locations have students using different platforms of AAC, such as sign language, picture symbols, or speech generating devices. The course is tailored to the implementation of the LAMP platform, but the information can be applied to many AAC systems. Parents, teachers or caregivers working with a student using a platform other than LAMP will still find useful information from this course.
The LAMP course will cover the following topics:
- The components of LAMP
- Readiness to learn
- Engaging the learner through joint engagement
- Learning language through a unique and consistent motor plan paired with an auditory signal and natural consequence
During the LAMP course, attendees will be discussing how this approach addresses the core language deficits of autism. They will learn how device features teach language, and how to use those features to implement LAMP components.
We invite you to register for this unique opportunity to learn how the LAMP approach will benefit our students. If you have any questions, please call The Learning Spectrum at 614-844-5433.
