In our most recent parent survey, many parents had questions regarding our Sensory rooms, and use of Sensory Areas items within our buildings. At The Learning Spectrum we are proud to share that we are constantly learning, expanding and adapting how we work with our students, especially in the area of Sensory Processing. The terms “Sensory” and “Sensory Supports” are often confused or mixed together.
Sensory Supports are physical activities (or objects) that can be calming in order to support students in getting to a “just right” state for being in a school, helping them to be safe and ready to learn.
Each of our TLS Campuses have Sensory Rooms where students can go to relax, de-escalate, re-acclimate, or simply process. As well, every classroom has a variety of sensory supports for students. While these supports vary from room to room based on student needs, TLS provides ample reinforcements in the area of sensory support. Many of our spaces offer headphones, fidgets, specialized seating, trampolines, ball pits, light covers, spin seats, swings, chew tubes, and oil diffusers, just to name a few things! As well, each of our locations offer Occupational Therapy groups for every class and age group weekly!
Here at The Learning Spectrum, sensory support is paramount to the services that we offer. We understand the changing and pressing needs of our students and strive to serve them in an environment that not only helps them grow academically, but socially, mentally, and emotionally as well!
