The Learning Spectrum is excited to again offer fun, safe and inclusive summer programs for children with ASD and related needs.  For those of you who are familiar with our classes, you will find some of your old favorites including “Friday Recreation Camps” at Highbanks Park, as well as the “ABC Basics” back by popular demand.  New weekly classes include small social skills groups for preschool-elementary students as well as a Teen Talk group.  As always we will continue to provide individualized intervention services, which can be a great way to ensure your child will be ready to return to school in the fall.  Below you will find a brief explanation of each class, along with days and times they will meet, as well as a preference form for individualized session schedules.  Please sign up soon because space is limited! (All classes are based on sign-ups and availability and The Learning Spectrum reserves the right to change class times and/or days if needed.)

Toddlers/Young Pre  (ages 2-4)



Social Play Groups  (7 Weeks: T&TH 6/24-8/7)

Groups designed to help children learn the skills necessary to participate in classroom and group instruction.  They work together to develop social and communication skills along with exploring different thematic units to enrich their learning experience.

Special Needs = $420.00      Peer models =   $210.00


Friday Recreation Camp  (7 weeks: 6/27-8/8) 

Friday recreational camps are designed to provide a safe and fun outdoor learning experience for your child.  We will participate in activities such as crafts, sports activities and nature walks while also fostering development of age-appropriate social skills with same-age peers.

Special Needs = $350.00     Peer Models =   $200.00

 

          

Preschool (ages 4-6)

 

Social Skills Groups (7 Weeks: 6/24-8/7)

Our preschool social skills groups are designed to help teach the basic social skills needed to successfully participate in social situations. We will learn about emotions and feelings through a program called “The Letter Friends”.  We will learn to navigate the social world through participating in activities that target areas such as developing self-esteem, understanding and recognizing emotions/feelings, and learn self-regulation skills to help manage behavior.

Special Needs  =  $500.00    Peer Models   =  $200.00


 ABC Basics (7 Weeks: 6/24-8/7)

 This 1 ˝ hour class will focus on reading, phonics and handwriting.  We will be using multi-sensory techniques including Handwriting Without Tears, The Phonics Dance, The Letter People, and Brain Gym activities to help develop reading and writing foundation skills. (We will be eating lunch during this class so plan to send a lunch with your child.)

Elementary (ages 7-10)

 

Social Skills Groups  (7 Weeks: 6/23-8/6)

Our elementary social skills groups are designed to help teach the social skills needed to successfully participate in social situations, with a focus on peer play and interactions. We will become Pirates this summer as we navigate the social world through participating in seven crusades that target areas such as social cognition, self-esteem and self-awareness, understanding and recognizing emotions, feelings and thinking patterns, recognizing diversity, problem solving and self-regulation.

   Special Needs = $500.00     Peer Models  = $200.00


ABC Basics and Beyond (7 Weeks: 6/23-8/6)

This 1 ˝ hour class will focus on reading, phonics and handwriting.  We will be using multi-sensory techniques including Handwriting Without Tears, The Phonics Dance, The Letter People, and Brain Gym activities to help develop and expand reading and writing skills. We will review letter sounds, as well as learn about long and short vowel sounds, Super Silent “E”, learn to “hunk and chunk” sounds, and learn how to develop a word wall. We will finish the summer with a wedding celebrating the union of Mr. Q and Miss U! (We will be eating lunch during this class so plan on sending a packed lunch with your child.)

Friday Recreation Camp (7 weeks: 6/27-8/8)

Friday recreational camps are designed to provide a safe and fun outdoor learning experience for your child.  We will participate in activities such as crafts, sports activities and nature walks while also fostering development of age-appropriate social skills with same-age peers. This year, our older elementary children will also be given the opportunity to learn through teaching as they model skills they have learned for our younger preschoolers!

Special Needs = $420.00       Peer Models  = $250.00

                                                 

Middle/High School (ages 11-18)

“Tween” Talk (6/25-8/6)

This group will meet once a week to work on social skills issues with peers. Teens will be given the opportunity to engage in activities designed to teach social understanding, develop an understanding of emotions and feelings in themselves and others, and learn how self-regulation and goal setting can help with behavior management.

Friday Recreation Camp  (8 weeks: 6/27-8/8)

Friday recreational camps are designed to provide a safe and fun outdoor learning experience for your child.  We will participate in activities such as crafts, sports activities and nature walks while also fostering development of age-appropriate social skills with same-age peers. Our oldest group of kids will be given the opportunity to learn through teaching as they become junior camp counselors and help out with our younger groups!

 Special Needs = $500.00

    

Please note that The Learning Spectrum accepts Autism Scholarship funds for all classes and individualized services that are covered on your student’s IEP goals.
