Speech and language therapy includes the evaluation, diagnosis,
and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing
disorders. Speech-Language Pathologists, or speech therapists, as they are
commonly called, are specially trained and licensed to improve the
communication skills of the people with whom they work. Our speech
therapists help children, adolescents, and adults to develop their
communication skills in the areas of:
- Articulation
- Receptive and expressive language
- Resonance/voice
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Oral Motor/feeding
- Social-pragmatic language skills
- Play Skills
- Functional Communication
Our therapists have specialized training in the
following areas:
- SOS (Sequential-Oral-Sensory) Approach to Feeding
- LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning)
Training
- Augmentative Communication
Our therapists believe that communication skills are
best learned in the child’s natural environment, doing what children do best
– playing and learning! We utilize a functional approach to teaching
communication by providing therapy in the context of play and natural
learning opportunities as much as possible. We believe that every child has
the ability to communicate. Our job is to help them discover how.
